I do not see a link to FTP Information on the new LMA Format. Am I missing something?

To the left there is are links: "All files: HTTP FTP" Left click "FTP" and you will see a file display, plus an address at the top, if you want to carry that into your client. Or you can do a right click to copy the link for your client.

http://www.archive.org/about/faqs.php#92

At the top of page you clicked on is the info for if you want to use an ftp client such as Filezilla or Smartftp:
ftp://ia310134.us.archive.org/3/items/pf2006-02-12_dsbd

In your ftp client, log into this server: ia310134.us.archive.org

Then go to this directory:
/3/items/pf2006-02-12_dsbd

I think some clients may be configurable to just throw the whole link into them and go there?

When the changes are complete will we again be able to download a show all at once with 1 click or are we going to have to be an engineer to figure it out? Thanks.

I'm guessing that may be an inquiry about the zip feature? If so, http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=60823

It gives me this link:

ftp://ia310134.us.archive.org/3/items/pf2006-02-12_dsbd

If I ftp to ia310134.us.archive.org and then go into /3/items/pf2006-02-12_dsbd, I see all the files just fine. Is that what you're seeing?

I've been able to get things done with this new system, but It sure was nice to see"This recording is hosted on Audio15.archive.org" as opposed to "1a10476.... and other such gobbeldygook. Looks like I have a bunch of old favorites entries to delete now:-(

I haven't tried an FTP download anything from Internet Archive in a few years and am having a hard time finding the FTP server address for the concerts I now want to download. This thread is a few years old, and I am wondering if it is out of date. When I go to the linked page, there is no mention of FTP under the download section, only HTTP. I searched the page for any mention of "FTP" and found nothing.

Other posts to this thread listed Internet Archive FTP server addresses, which I connected to without difficulty. But how can I find the precise server and files I am looking for (in this case My Morning Jacket audio files, which I want to download in a lossless format). Here is a sample of a concert I'd like to download via FTP. http://www.archive.org/details/mmj2008-03-15.aud.flac16

Thanks to whoever can help.

if you prefer FTP, you can always replace "http" to "ftp" in address string.
example:
http://ia341005.us.archive.org/2/items/mmj2008-03-15.aud.flac16/
ftp://ia341005.us.archive.org/2/items/mmj2008-03-15.aud.flac16/
the FTP link was removed from all item pages because it was misused by robots.

I greatly appreciate the timely response to my question. I don't know if this forum is monitored, but if it is, it would be useful to update the FAQs which still direct the user to look for the FTP link on the page of the individual concerts.

Well, using the helpful hint that I could substitute "FTP" for "HTTP," I did manage to connect my FTP client (Filezilla) to the Internet Archive server. I connected to the server by copying this address into the "host" box: ftp://ia341005.us.archive.org/2/items/mmj2008-03-15.aud.flac16/

However, Filezilla used only this to connect: ftp://ia341005.us.archive.org and deleted the sub-folder information.

What I cannot figure out now is how to access any of the directories on that server. In the "remote site" box, I tried copying the full string above but got an error message. My various other experiments met with the same fate, as evidenced by the following failed commands.

Command: CWD /FTP directory /2/items/mmj2008-03-15.aud.flac16/ at ia341005.us.archive.org
Response: 550 Prohibited file name: /FTP directory /2/items/mmj2008-03-15.aud.flac16/ at ia341005.us.archive.org

I would appreciate further guidance on how to actually connect to the appropriate directory, and then to download the files I want. Thank you.

i can't help you with that. on my side, connecting with ftp client works well. you can do it the other way - use http + download manager (flashget or any other).

Forum: etree Subject: Re: FTP Information (downloading via FTP)

OK, I figured out what the problem was after checking out this post:

http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=170095

I was logging into the FTP server using my regular Internet Archive login and password. Apparently that didn't give me access to the folders on the server, even though it did let me login to the server.

When I used the login name "anonymous" and a random password (or perhaps no password at all) I connected to the server and was then able to navigate the folders and find the files. It would still be useful if someone with appropriate authority could update the FAQs on the site with the instructions at the link above.

Thanks to everyone who makes this an unbelievable resource.
